Dear Diary, Bard_Vardaman_2.jpg
I started to feel awful about killing that fish today because I think I may have killed my mother. Although, I
have this feeling that Peabody may have killed her. I mean he was the last one with her. I think that makes
more sense than me killing her. Cash wants to nail her in a coffin. How could he do that to her! How would she be able to breathe! I remember once when the rats came in my crib and I couldn't breathe!I need to do something to help her! I will drill a hole in the coffin! The family is going to take Ma to Jefferson soon! I will be able to see the train! I am very excited!

Addie's Reaction-
I always knew that Jewel would make me proud one day! He fulfilled my prophecy. He saved me from the water and now the fire! I was shocked when he went in after me in the river. I can only imagine what’s next. That boy surprises me each and every day. I always knew that Darl would fail me. Lighting that barn on fire! Not saving me from the river. Pretending he couldn't get a good grip or I was too heavy or something to save me. I don't care if he is crazy! Oh, I would love to beat that boy! It would give me such pleasure to punish him! But my boy, Jewel has saved me! He is my boy NOT Anse's. I take such pride in saying that. Anse has his good for nothing Darl and Cash and all the others but I have wonderful Jewel. Cora thought I was crazy for believing it but you just wait until she hears this story. Ha! I wish Anse only knew about Whitfield and me. I hope he finds out and the kids too. I hope that everyone finds out! I hope they put it in the newspapers and send it all over town. Everyone will know that the son of Whitfield, not Anse has saved me from a great and terrible fire!

Bard_Vardaman_2.jpg Boy With A Fish
For your funeral, we pin pictures of you
on a board. To revive you,

to assure ourselves light fell on you once,
smiler, joker. Blown egg.

Larking on a beach: cardboard playboy
in tilted Bogart panama, white twill;

the wedding (we're unsure, but choose it
for that frail joy, part of the story).

No recent ones. Everyone stares hardest
at this one: aged fourteen, perhaps,

hefting an enormous bream you'd caught.
You look at us, hold out the fish,

shoulders hunched, offering.

William Faulkner's "Voice" on Addie's Section

bard_mcgowan.jpgDear Diary,
A fantic young woman came into my shop today. She asked for an abortion. Says that no one would give it to her! She even offered ten dollars for it! A wonderful idea crept into my mind and I decided to pretend I was a doctor. My coworker almost blew my cover but I got her to drink something and come back later. I closed the store after everyone left and waited for her. When she came she brought her younger brother. I was worried it wouldn't work but she left him out on the curb to wait. When she came in I gave her some talcum capsules and led her into the basement.

bard_dewey_dell.jpg

I can't believe he did it! Well, I can't believe he didn't do it. He raped me! Still little guts inside me. Still a little life inside me! He took my money and he raped me! How can someone do that? I trusted him to give me an abortion. I drank from the bottle, I ate the pills and still my family will find out about this baby. Lafe's baby! What will pa say? At least Darl is taken care of, he won't be tellin' anybody.
